This place was yummy!! It doesn't look like much from the outside but who cares? The staff are friendly and the food is authentic and delish. I ordered the Shrimp Mixta with grilled peppers and onions and the grilled chicken salad which came in a tasty crispy shell. Sooo good! I will be sure to take pics next time.

OK, so this place is not much to look at from the outside. It is located in a very dated shopping center next to a Latino grocery store. The interior is pretty barren too, with minimal décor and functionary seating. My co-workers often show up with take-out from here, and when I saw their quesadillas, I knew I must get one for myself. They didn't even know the name of the place, only that it said 'Chicken and Ribs' above the door. They have no take-out menu or website. So I ventured here one day after school. I was not disappointed! Their shrimp quesadilla ($10.95) is delicious! It is super cheesy and is filled with chunks of shrimp. I ate 3/4, and I was full. They serve it with plenty of salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce. It was well worth the price, which isn't cheap compared to all the taquerias in a two mile radius of this place. I think this place must have an active nightlife scene. I was there at 3pm and there were already two men drinking at the bar! It looks life it serve as a nightclub on the weekends since they are open late into the night. I finally found a place near my school that is worth visiting time and time again, although it will be mainly for take-out.

I ended up at Samlina after bailing out of rush hour traffic on the way to downtown dc...I had been craving subs all day, so an adventure into an unknown Mexican restaurant in Riverdale didn't ease my nerves at first. But when we opened the door, everything turned around. The place isn't fancy, but has a warm and fun vibe thanks to soccer posters, tempting beer ads, a HDTV, and an oceanfront mural on the walls. We ordered, and got to enjoy some crispy chips and fresh salsa while we waited. Then the food came. I got an appetizer combo -- yucca fritters that redefined for me what "Golden Brown and Delicious" could truly be, fried pork belly, and cheesy pupusas. Entirely delicious and very satisfying. A friend from Southern California (where good, authentic Mexican food is a required staple) got the chicken fajitas and loved them. And our other friend got the chicken, which was near perfection with its fully seasoned savory meat, supple tenderness, and nice char courtesy of the last-second finish on the grill. Everything was delicious, and blew our expectations out of the water. Venture out here, and get ready for a meal full of smiles.

I visited Samlina recently and the food was like something you'd get from those ads "cook Mexican using Campbells' soup." Not bad food, just rather bland. The salsa tasted like tomato soup w/ a bit of onion and cilantro in it and my shrimp in tomato sauce was much the same. Beans and rice were ok, but the beans tasted like they came out of a can. Don't know that I'd go there again on my own but if I was with other people who wanted to eat there, it would be ok. Again, not bad food, just nothing worth going out of your way for.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
